The Resident Evil – October 4, 1995 Prototype (Sample Ver. 10/04) is a significantly more advanced early build of the original PlayStation release, created exactly two months after the August 4 prototype. Preserved and released by Hidden Palace, this version features more accessible rooms, expanded mechanics, and a clearer glimpse into the game’s evolving structure during development.

This video highlights the October 4 build, showcasing its increased level of completion compared to the earlier V‑Jump‑era prototype. More environments are explorable, additional systems are implemented, and this build even includes the ability to play as Jill, marking a major step toward the final game’s dual‑scenario design. Despite these improvements, the prototype remains far from complete, with unfinished areas, missing assets, and experimental ideas that were later refined or removed.

Released publicly during Resident Evil’s 15th anniversary celebration, this prototype stands as a crucial piece of survival‑horror history — a snapshot of Capcom’s design process as the team shaped what would become one of the most influential horror games ever made.
