This performance is still stunning to me. It still is Grace's most creative interpretation of a song. But that doesn't say enough. The enormous difference between the original and her cover is something that can only be imagined by the most capable composer.

I've listened to over 40 covers of this song. Some of them have over 35 million plays. Every single one of them sang the chorus the same monotonous way TS did. All of them tried to sing it with as much vocal affectations as possible. Most of those covers are not worth a second listen.

While Grace gave the whole song a new life without any vocal acrobatics, created beautiful melodies for the monotonous chorus and gave the lyrics a highly pleasing and timeless cadence.

Others sing a song because they want you to hear them sing. Grace sings a song because the song needs to be heard that way. Her singing is paradoxical. Unlike most singers, she never puts herself between the song and the listener. While without her creative input the song makes a weaker appeal to the listener, as proven by so many others who covered this song.
