COVID-19 has been a painful wake-up call to the gaps in our underfunded and devalued long-term care system, with 82% of pandemic-related deaths in Canada happening in care homes. How much suffering could have been avoided if appropriate investments and policy changes had been made before the pandemic?
On National Seniors Day, we invited long-term care providers, administrators and safety representatives at Wake-Up Call: Canada’s Long Term Care Crisis to hear about their experiences during COVID-19 and discuss how to create a community of care that provides older adults with safety, dignity and comfort—during and beyond the pandemic.
This online conversation was presented by SFU Public Square, the SFU Department of Gerontology, the SFU Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and SFU Advancement and Alumni Engagement.
