SAANICH - Openly talking about mental illness can be challenging at the best of times, but when you're dealing with an older generation it can be even more challenging.
But there are a lot of resources available for seniors dealing with mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety and problems with addictions.
The Vancouver Island Health Authority's Elder Outreach Program works with seniors who need help.
An estimated 25% of seniors struggle with mental illness at some point, most commonly depression.
The Courtnall Celebrity Classic is July 22nd to 24th, raising awareness and erasing the stigma attached to mental health care.
