This was the last Thames TV ident on ITV. It was initially used in London only but when the news broke that Thames had lost their franchise they dropped the generic ITV branding and used this in front of network programming as well. And a nice logo it is to. The Big Ben passes in front of St Paul’s cathedral to reveal tower bridge. A backwards zoom reveals the 3 iconic locations as well as the BT Tower with Thames Television over a blue triangle. Thames’s last day was 31 December 1992.
Thames Television was the London weekday franchise holder between 30 July 1968 until the night of 31 December 1992. It broadcast from Monday at 09:25am to Friday afternoon (times varied over the years) at which time it would hand over to London Weekend Television (LWT).
