The government has extended the last date to opt for the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for central government employees till 30th September. Employees can now choose between NPS and UPS till the new deadline. Once the option is exercised, no further change will be allowed. Under UPS, employees with at least 25 years of service will get guaranteed pension of 50% of the average basic salary of last 12 months before retirement.
