This month I was so fortunate to come back to the Bastyr herb gardens that I’ve spent many years teaching in. One of the first plants I had to go visit was the Mugwort; the moment I start touching it I can feel my shoulders drop and relax. The plant’s distinctive aroma comes from its terpenes - volatile compounds that are released into the air and onto your hands when you touch it. These terpenes interact with our nervous system through scent and through our bloodstream, bringing us toward a calmer, more receptive state. Traditionally, mugwort has been used to support vivid dreaming, ease tension, and help the body release what it’s holding on to, whether that’s physical tightness or the heaviness of a long day.
Are you carrying a full backpack full of behaviors and baggage that doesn’t serve you? Mugwort may be your answer. As it physically can pull toxins from the soil and convert them into the basic building blocks of life, energetically it can do the same for us; transforming us to be the people we were born to be - free of the baggage that is holding us back from our true self and healing path.
Mugwort is one of the herbs I discuss in my book Quest for Calm! - Comment “Calm” for a link!
