What is a runeword item?

In Diablo 2 there exists weapons and equipment that have sockets. In these sockets can be placed jewels, gems or, in this case, runes to grant extra attributes to the item. Runeword items are item-specific and which can be made depends on the number of sockets the item. The minimum number of sockets is 2 to a maximum of 6.

When making a runeword item, the number of sockets has to be exactly right. No leftover sockets. You can't make an Enigma with a 4 socket armor. Has to have 3. Also, the runes have to be placed in the correct order. Enigma is JahIthBer. This means you have to place the Jah rune, then the Ith rune and then the Ber rune. If you place the Ith or Ber runes first it will not become an Enigma and you just wasted the runes.
