Описание: Ponty Chadha Case
Gurdeep Singh Chadha, better known as Ponty Chadha (born October 22, 1960 – died November 17, 2012), was a prominent Indian businessman and liquor baron. He owned the Wave Group, with major interests in alc*h*l distribution (holding monopolies in states like Punjab and Uttar Pradesh), real estate, multiplexes (Wave Cinemas), and other ventures. His empire was estimated to be worth billions (reports varied from ₹6,000 crore to ₹20,000 crore or around $10 billion at the time). He was known for his political influence and controversial business practices.
The Incident: Shootout and Deaths
On November 17, 2012, Ponty Chadha (aged 52) and his younger brother Hardeep Singh Chadha were k*ll*d in a violent shootout at a family farmhouse in Chhatarpur, South Delhi (near the area sometimes referred to as DLF Farms or Central Drive).
The clash involved armed supporters from both sides and lasted over 30 minutes (around 11:55 AM to 12:28 PM).
Ponty sustained multiple gunshot wounds (reports say up to 13 bullets) and died at a hospital.
Hardeep was k*ll*d on the spot with fewer wounds.
At least one other person (a manager or associate) was injured.
The incident stemmed from a long-standing family property and business dispute that escalated after the d**th of their father, Kulwant Singh Chadha, in April 2011.
Background of the Dispute
The brothers (Ponty, Hardeep, and a third brother Rajinder) had tensions over the division of the family business empire.
Disputes intensified over properties, including the sprawling Chhatarpur farmhouse where the family lived.
There were allegations of unequal sharing, pressure on their ailing father (who had Alzheimer's), reneged settlements, and suspicions (e.g., Ponty suspecting Hardeep of tipping off income tax authorities leading to raids).
Ponty reportedly planned to forcibly evict Hardeep from the disputed property with armed men, including his aide Sukhdev Singh Namdhari (former Uttarakhand minorities commission chairman).
Accounts vary: Some say Hardeep initiated firing when his side was attacked; others describe mutual crossfire. Police described it as premeditated from both sides.

Legal Proceedings and Key Developments
Delhi Police filed charge sheets against 21–22 accused, including Sukhdev Singh Namdhari (seen as a key conspirator), guards, workers, and associates. Charges included m*rd*r, attempt to m*rd*r, rioting, dacoity, and more.
In January 2014, a trial court initially dropped m*rd*r charges against all 21 accused.
This was challenged; in July 2015, a court framed m*rd*r charges against the 21.
The case dragged on with multiple judges, bail issues, and some accused in jail for years without bail.
By around 2017, reports highlighted delays and procedural issues.
No major convictions for m*rd*r are prominently reported in later years; the case focused on conspiracy and related charges rather than direct m*rd*r convictions in many accounts.
In recent years (e.g., 2025), Ponty's son (Monty Chadha) has been in the news for separate matters, like property fraud cases (where he was arrested and later acquitted/bail granted) and invoking the "right to be forgotten" in court over old media coverage.
The case remains one of India's most sensational family/business feuds turned deadly, often compared to a Bollywood thriller due to the wealth, guns, and betrayal involved. It highlighted issues in family business successions and political-business ties.
