Fløyen, alternatively also used Fløien, is the name of the viewpoint at Fløien station on the foremost part of Fløyfjellet and the nearby areas. The view of the Bergen Peninsula makes the entire Fløyfjellet a popular destination both among tourists and the city's locals.
Fløyfjellet is first and foremost the name of the mountain and the mountain top at Fløyvarden which has a height of 400 meters above sea level and which is located approx. 2-300 meters as the crow flies behind Fløien station at 320 masl but is also the name of the entire area.
Fløyfjellet is also the name of the hiking trail that winds in Fløydalen from Fløien station around old Fløien where Fløipilen stFløyfjellet has good and signposted hiking trails and hiking trails on to, among others, Blåmanen, Rundemanen, and Sandviksfjellet, or you can go on to Vareggen or across the Vidden to Ulriken. The local area by Skomakerdiket and Skomakerstuen are also popular with canoeing and activities.
The main network of hiking trails is called Byfjellene and starts from Munkebotsvatnet in the north, goes over Sandviksfjellet and Fløyfjellet, via Fløyen up to Midtfjellet and further up towards Blåmanen.
Tippetue and Fløysvingene are hiking trails on the west side of Fløyfjellet, up and down from the center via Fjellveien to Fløipilen and Fløyen. Tippetue is the northernmost and Fløysvingene is more in the middle of the various hiking trails to and from Bergen city center. Kamveien, or now Byfjellene, is the name of the road up from Skansemyren, this first go in a south-easterly direction before turning back towards Fløyen (this is drivable for goods deliveries and emergencies). Further south, Knattenveien comes up and follows the ridge, hence Søre Kamvei
Fløibanen is a rail cable car (funicular) for passenger traffic between Bergen city center and the viewpoint Fløyen located at 320 masl. Fløibanen and Fløyen are iconic features of Bergen and at the same time one of Norway's most visited and largest tourist attractions, which in 2015 had a record with 1,575,503 boardings [1]. Construction work began in 1914 and the line received regular passenger traffic on 15 January 1918. The length is 850 meters, and the height difference is 300 meters. The one-way trip usually takes five to eight minutes with one of the two modern panoramic carriages Red Riding Hood and Blåmann, which each hold approx. 100 passengers.
