Britain’s petrol retailers have been accused of profiteering from the energy crisis after research found they had failed to pass on nearly half of Rishi Sunak’s 5p fuel duty cut.
Research suggests that supermarkets and other petrol retailers may be making extra profits of about £7 million a month.
Howard Cox, founder of Fair Fuel UK, says "the fuel supply chain are ripping off motorists."
This has been denied by the Petrol Retailers Association, which represents independent retailers, who said that their margins were much lower at between 2p and 4p a litre. They added that their members were also “not immune to costs-of-living increases, including labour and electricity costs, alongside April’s rise in national insurance contributions”.
