STORYLINE:
Key Haitian rebel leader Guy Philippe said on Sunday he would shortly be sending his forces to the capital, Port-au-Prince, "to give security to the people," after Haiti''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s President Jean-Bertrand Aristide resigned and flew into exile earlier in the day.
Crowds danced and sang in the streets of Haiti''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s second-largest city, Cap-Haitien, following the news of Aristide''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s departure.
The president went after bowing to pressure from a rebellion at home and governments abroad, US and Haitian officials said.
In the northern rebel base of Cap-Haitien, fighters hugged each other and yelled with glee, "Aristide''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s gone! Aristide''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s out!"
A large crowd held a procession, dancing through the streets and following rebel commander Louis-Jodel Chamblain who waved a Haitian flag and flashed victory signs.
Before becoming a rebel leader, Chamblain used to head a Haitian army death squad.
