Røros Christmas Markets! - VLOGMAS Day 17 ❤️

This video is all about my trip to Røros with my lovely friends. We had such a special day and it marked our last get together before everyone disperses for Christmas.

Prior to visiting Røros, all I knew about the town was that it is where Hjem for Jul was filmed and that they sold very thick, well-made blankets (kind of essential with temperatures in the -20 region I guess).

After visiting, I learned more about Røros. Røros is a beautiful, koselig, town, well-known for its history of copper mining. The town was full of traditional, Norwegian, wooden buildings, and it seemed to come alive with the presence of the markets. The tradesmen were welcoming and were excited to teach us about their local produce. But I did find that the stalls were predominantly food-based which doesn’t interest me too much as I have a very restricted diet.

I had a lovely train ride with Bjorg and Thor, Kaja kindly bought me my first ever smulteringer, and Lena provided a lot of laughs with her pictures with the reindeer. We also drank a lot of hot chocolate, heard a beautiful choir sing, and met lots of friendly people along the way. All in all, it was a great day!

A little piece on how I coped with my UC in Røros:

This was my first, long day-excursion that I’ve experienced in months. It wasn’t easy to achieve, but there are ways in which I managed with the UC.

Firstly, it goes without saying, that a snowy trip to the Røros Christmas Markets is a rare occasion and extremely exciting for someone like myself who beams when snow is present. But, I must say, I am so grateful to my friends for how understanding they are with my condition. I didn’t want the trip to Røros to revolve around my condition, but it was sort of unavoidable, and yet my friends were incredibly supportive throughout the entire day. They checked on me constantly, offered to take lots of sitting breaks, and were very patient with me.

I woke up extremely early before taking the train as I needed to use the bathroom a lot before leaving the house so I was quite tired, but luckily my friends are amazing and frequently offered to stop and rest throughout the day. I felt anxious before leaving as my stomach was playing up all morning, but the anxiety went away as soon as I saw my friends.

To ensure that I could join, I didn’t eat much throughout the day to prevent urgency from being high, so when we visited cafes and things I just didn’t eat. Not ideal, but it really helps me to live a somewhat normal life. The only downside is that not eating makes me feel weak and tired. I became quite acquainted with the bathrooms in Røros as my stomach wasn’t too good. I used the bathroom 9 times this day. When I got home, I was incredibly fatigued and weak and I felt sore for the entirety of the following day.

I also packed my bag accordingly. I never travel without UC essentials anymore as it isn’t worth the risk of being underprepared. When sitting on the train, I took the aisle seat so that I could make a quick getaway when needed.

But this is definitely a step in the right direction for me and is something I never would have been able to participate in some weeks ago, so I feel very grateful for this trip.

Just a quick note: this video, and the majority of my videos throughout the festive period, will not be focusing on the UC. The vlogmasses are just something fun for me to focus on and it’s nice to not just think about my condition 24/7. Please bare that in mind while watching these videos and remember that you are only seeing a small part of the day here.
