Heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra has led to a sharp rise in the water levels of rivers in the Chikkodi subdivision of Karnataka.

The Krishna River is receiving an inflow of 1.34 lakh cusecs, prompting authorities to keep the NDRF team on alert in Chikkodi.

Several religious places, including the Bengali Baba Temple in Karadaga village, Datta Temple in Kallol, and Baba Mansoor Shah Wali Dargah in Mullanki, have been submerged due to the rising water levels.

A total of 11 low-level bridges have gone under water, affecting connectivity across Nipani, Chikkodi, and Kagwad taluks. The Kudachi-Ugar bridge has also been closed, and people are being diverted through alternative routes.

Meanwhile, the water levels in the Krishna, Doodhaganga, and Hiranyakeshi rivers continue to rise every hour. The district administration has urged people not to enter the rivers and to follow safety advisories.
