Foreign broking firm JPMorgan says that the ongoing improvement in industry’s return on invested capital will be halted in 2023 owing to higher than expected capital expenditure, delayed price hike and lack of 5G monetization. The brokerage also expects hesitance from telecom companies in taking tariff hikes, given a lack of adequate consumer appetite that could be delayed further, given an upcoming election cycle.
It expects Reliance Jio to shift focus from entry-level users to premium subscribers which could lead to a more competitive pricing environment in the industry. For Indus Towers, the brokerage remains concerned on receivables from Vodafone Idea.
