Metal 3D printing (laser powder-bed fusion) builds parts layer by layer using a laser to melt metal powder in a controlled chamber. This complex process involves extreme heat, rapid melting/solidification, and microstructural changes, often creating internal stresses that require careful optimisation.
Traditionally, finding the right settings (laser power, speed, etc.) relies on costly trial-and-error. A*STAR IHPC’s Additive Manufacturing Digital Twin (AM-DT) replaces physical tests with virtual simulations, slashing time and costs while maximising precision.
