A toroidal transformer is a type of electrical transformer with a distinctive doughnut (torus) shape. It works by transferring electrical energy between circuits through electromagnetic induction, where a changing magnetic field in the primary coil induces a voltage in the secondary coil. The toroidal design offers advantages like higher efficiency, smaller size, and lower stray magnetic fields compared to traditional transformers.
How it works:
1. Core:
A toroidal transformer has a core made of a ferromagnetic material (like iron powder, iron, or ferrite) in the shape of a torus (donut).
2. Windings:
The primary and secondary coils of wire are wound around the toroidal core, separated by insulation.
3. Electromagnetic Induction:
When an alternating current (AC) flows through the primary winding, it creates a changing magnetic field within the core. This changing magnetic field induces a voltage in the secondary winding, thus transferring electrical energy.
4. Voltage Transformation:
The ratio of the number of turns in the primary and secondary windings determines the voltage transformation ratio. If the secondary has more turns, it steps up the voltage; if it has fewer turns, it steps it down.

The toroidal shape allows for more design flexibility in terms of size, shape, and mounting options.
Better Thermal Management:
The uniform construction of the toroidal core allows for more efficient heat dissipation, improving overall performance and reliability.
