9 Months of VBT Data Told Us This Athlete Was Ready

The real story is in the data.
As we prepare athletes for the Arnold, we reviewed 9 months of Velocity Based Training (VBT) data from one athlete’s squat at 170kg.
Instead of just looking at PRs, we evaluated the metrics that actually tell us if an athlete is ready to perform.
Here’s what stood out:
• Power Output: Over 3000 watts, the highest this athlete has ever produced
• Bar Speed: Improving under the same load
• Time to Peak Velocity: 1.6s → 0.9s (almost a 44% improvement)
That tells us something important.
The athlete didn’t just get stronger — they became more explosive and more efficient at producing force (RFD – Rate of Force Development).
This is exactly what we want to see during the transmutation phase and taper heading into competition.
Metrics like velocity, power output, and time-to-peak velocity give coaches objective feedback on whether training adaptations are actually occurring.
In other words:
Don’t just trust the process, Test the process.
Velocity Based Training changes how you see progress.
