On Monday, 21 November 2022, an earthquake of 5.6 M at a depth of 10km occurred in West Java, Indonesia. The epicenter of the earthquake was 10km south-west of Cianjur. The Cianjur Regent has declared emergency status for 30 days until 20 December 2022
YUM is active in 3 sub-districts that have been impacted by the earthquake: Cipanas, Pacet, Sukaresmi. YUM itself is situated in the sub-district of Sukaresmi.
Since the earthquake hit, YUM has started to distribute basic needs to shelters in remote areas and seeing what else is needed to help the community build back. Our team continues to deliver relief items daily. So far, we have reached 3,572 people in over 1,000 households across 17 shelters in 11 villages.
With close to 400 aftershocks (up till Tuesday, 6 December), over 110,000 people across Cianjur have been displaced by the earthquake and living in shelters.
