No need to play it safe here. These enemies can chip away at your health, but there's enough recovery around to get you through. Instead of relying upon your opponents to distract the targets, better to wring every bit of XP from the level instead.
In this run, I confirmed you can get max Deduction before the second mission award. Which leaves you with Armor 2/Engineering 2/Focus 6 by the first ED209 boss, then up to Focus 10 here with a point to spare.
