In a world in turmoil, Africa lacks a clear way forward. Large parts of the African continent are engulfed in conflict, with tens of thousands of people dying in wars in the east, west and centre in 2025. In such circumstances, the African Union (AU) would ordinarily have been expected to play an anchoring role. Alas, at a time when the AU is needed most, it is arguably at its weakest since it was inaugurated. This does not bode well for resolving many of the continent’s burning conflicts.
In this online event, Crisis Group experts will discuss the seven peace and security priorities for the African continent in 2026, zooming in on Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan.
