The abstract of this talk is copied below:
The material distribution within a mine face differs in the small scale – dependent on the heterogeneity of the deposit, surface weathering and in different extraction horizons. The daily assigned segments allocated for extraction can show a high degree of variability and the subsequent processing steps need to be tailored to the material from the extraction stream. Common models are based on point data (drill cores and samples) and can lead to misclassifications due to the interpolation and high variability of the material. Hyperspectral imaging offers a spatial detection method of the mining surface and allows for a classification of mineral- and element distributions to aid an efficient extraction and material handling. The aim is to implement hyperspectral imaging into open-pit mining sustainably covering a variety of applications and to develop a workflow for mine-face, ground-based, spectral characterization. This presentation will give an overview of the different use-cases of hyperspectral data within the mining environment and presents feasibility studies and research around the development of solutions with the HySpex VNIR-SWIR systems.
