Some say PRAH-see-oh-dee-mium, others PRAISE-yo-deem-yum but however you say it this is definitely one of the more bizarrely named of the elements. Blame it on the Greeks whose name for the word green is "prasinos" and after which the metal was named since it forms a greenish oxide.


When it comes to pure metal cubes, praseodymium is a special case given its affinity to oxidation. Much like an iron nail left out in the open, Pr rusts too except it does so in an off-white powdery mess that left unchecked will turn the whole object into a puffy pile of PrO2. So protecting the surface with a sealant is a must if we are to enjoy our little cube of this exotic metal.

Our praseodymium cubes will come in a glass ampule which guarantees the preservation of their metallic luster. Don’t let the glass break or they’ll turn pitch black.
