Following his wife’s murder, Sam Fields finds himself lonely and helpless. One day, however, he sees an advertisement on his television for a service called “The Red Retreat,” offered by a company called HavenMind, promising to help you “rid yourself of all burdens” and “rewrite your past.” Out of desperation, he calls the number on the screen and enrolls himself. Upon arrival at the retreat, a group of scientists explains that, similar to a sheet of paper, memories can be folded and shaped into whatever we imagine. This can be done through a substance called Nurecall, which affects synapses so that traumatic memories can be reshaped at will. Although Sam is initially enticed by this idea, he soon realizes the treatment, the company, and its CEO, Victor Thorn, are not as they seem.

This is a film I've dreamt of bringing to life for over a year and, if selected as the recipient of the Canon First Cut Contest $25,000 grand prize, I will use the funding strategically to fulfill that dream. The budget will be allocated to a talented, compact crew, efficient, high-quality technology and cameras (specifically Canon equipment for optimal visual storytelling), cost-effective filming locations, and carefully planned production schedules for budget maximization. Additionally, a small ensemble orchestra will record my score compositions in a professional studio, and the cast will include a combination of experienced and emerging actors capable of embodying these rich, complex roles. With this, I can ensure a high-quality, achievable production that respects the $25,000 budget while simultaneously maintaining cinematic excellence.

Beyond entertainment, it is my dream for this story to inspire and impact global audiences. The film is a cautionary tale about the dangers of seeking “quick-fixes” for deep burdens and trauma, whether through drugs, alcohol abuse, or other harmful solutions. This message is deeply personal to me, as I have seen too many in my community fall victim to these pitfalls. It also reflects the lessons my grandfather preached to those around him. Through this film, I aim to extend his legacy and leave a lasting, positive impact on viewers’ lives worldwide. For this reason, I will continue to stamp the name “$13Dallas,” after Joseph “Dallas” White, on all of my films.
