"I can confirm that one of the two detainees Vlatko Kupreskic did attempt to resist detention. He opened fire on S-FOR troops with an automatic weapon. S-FOR troops returned fire. Vlatko Kupreskic was hit three times - the shoulder the arm and the leg. He was transported to an S-FOR medical facility - we're not discussing which one - but I understand that he is now in a stable condition and currently also on the way to the Hague."
SUPER CAPTION: Major Peter Clarke, S-FOR Spokesman
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"The Hague Tribunal welcomes the arrest by S-FOR of twoi Bosnian Croats detained for war crimes - Vlatko Kupreskic and Anto Furundzija. Anto Furundzija is currently on a plane to the Hague - the charges are being read to him . He's under a sealed indictment, and that indictment is currently in the process of being unsealed. As soon as it's unsealed we will provide more detail on what exactly Anto Furundzija is indicted for. Vlatko Kupreskic is indicted under the so-called Vlatko Kupreskic and others indictment. He's indicted for alleged crime committed in 1993 in Ahmici, in Viez and eight other villages in central Bosnia, Specifically he's also indicted for shooting and killing of a muslim family in that area. We understand from S-FOR that Vlatko Kupreskic was shoot and wounded during the operation because he opened fire on S-FOR soldiers with an automatic weapon."
SUPER CAPTION: Alexander Ivanko, UN International Police Task Force
SOUNDBITE: (English)
"This action by S-For stands as a warning to all those indicted of war crimes. While they're still at large they too will be held accountable, They should make steps immediately to surrender themselves to the international community. At the same time NATO continues to insist that the parties to the peace agreement comply fully with their commitment to the transfer of indicted war criminals to the international community.
SUPER CAPTION: Javier Solana, NATO Secretary-General
