This is Kadek, a thirty-five year old single mother living in Bali. She's lived in this room with her mother and daughter Chelsea for the last seven years. It's not exactly the most spacious accommodation, and Chelsea often sleeps on top of a blanket on the tile floor to give her mother and grandmother more space on the mattress, but Kadek is still grateful that they have a roof over their heads.
Bali's economy has been hit hard by the pandemic, and even though her work hours have been cut, Kadek is one of the lucky ones to still have a job - another reason to be grateful.
After spending the day with Kadek, it's apparent that she's focused on what she has rather than what she lives without. That's not to say she doesn't have ambitions to improve her situation and particularly that of her daughter. She hopes to one day own her own restaurant and have the finances to send Chelsea to university.
