Hey everyone, it's Matt, and today I'm going to show you how to filter emails in Gmail. I'm currently in my Gmail account, starting off in the primary inbox.
I’ll switch over to the promotions inbox, where most marketing emails and newsletters land. For this demo, I’ll use the Morning Brew email as an example.
To filter emails, you can do it for various reasons, and I’ll guide you through the steps. First, you need to go to the top of your Gmail interface.
Whether you're on desktop or mobile, the steps are pretty similar. Click on the three dots, which is the universal "more" symbol.
In this menu, you'll find options like reply, forward, and report spam. But to filter emails, you want to select "Filter messages like this." Once you click that, a new window pops up, showing emails from the specific address, in this case, morningbrew.com.
Now, you can filter based on several criteria. You can filter by the recipient's address, specific words in the subject line, or even the size of the email.
You can set filters for emails larger or smaller than a specified size in megabytes, kilobytes, or bytes. Additionally, you can filter for emails with attachments or those without chats.
Once you’ve set your criteria, click on "Create filter." If you want to filter multiple emails, you can separate them with commas. You can also filter by domain if you prefer to target all emails from a specific sender.
After creating the filter, you’ll return to the main screen, where you can choose what actions to apply to the filtered emails. You can star them, mark them as read, or even delete them immediately so they don’t clutter your inbox.
If you have a persistent spammer, deleting those emails can be a lifesaver. There are also options to prevent certain emails from being sent to spam, categorize them, or even send a template response.
Depending on your needs, you can apply labels if you have them set up for different businesses or projects. After making your selections, just click the blue "Create filter" button.
Remember, if you want to create filters for multiple email addresses, you’ll need to repeat the process for each one unless you use commas to separate them. I hope this video on how to filter emails in Gmail has been helpful for you.
If you found it useful, please give it a thumbs up, ask any questions in the comments, and don’t forget to subscribe for more tips like this!
