I Got Addicted to Japanese Snacks in Fukuoka 🇯🇵

I enjoyed a full afternoon of exploring and snacking in Fukuoka, Japan.

Right outside the Hakata train station there was a stall selling lots of different peach products from Fukushima and Yamanashi. Those are the major peach producing regions of Japan.

I enjoyed a nice peach drink in a can, which wasn't sparkling and tasted very nice and natural.

I planned to visit the Kawabata shopping arcade, that I made a brief stop at in the previous video. It's an easy 1-stop subway ride from Hakata train station to Kushida Shrine station, but I decided to walk it as the weather was nice.

On the way there I stopped by MOS Burger for a burger meal snack. I say "snack" because their burgers are quite small. I've eaten at MOS Burger in Thailand and always enjoy it when I'm a little bit hungry but not starving.

I was keen to find out if it would taste different in Japan, and to me the sauce on the burger tastes less spicy and more sweet.

I then passed through the Canal City mall, buying a lot of random souvenirs from the Gachapon machines. These "Gachas" are ubiquitous in Japan. They are small vending machines, with items costing around 300 - 500 Yen.

Each machine has a theme but the actual variation of the item you get is random. Most of the items have a keychain and I see a lot of younger Japanese people attach them to their bag as a fashion accessory.

I also grabbed another snack at Canal City, a variation of a Dorayaki called "Doraking" at the Itoking bakery. Dorayaki is a Japanese sweet treat made from two fluffy, golden pancakes, sandwiching a dollop of sweet red bean paste (azuki). These 'Doraking' variations have thinner pancakes and thicker filling, with a load of fresh cream added. Yum yum!

After enjoying that delicious Japanese dessert, I headed over to Kawabata street where I bought another useful souvenir, a chopstick rest or 'Hashioki' as they are called in Japan.

I also found a stall there selling Daifuku. Daifuku is basically a soft, chewy rice cake (called mochi) that's filled with something sweet and tasty, such as sweet red bean paste. The one I bought had a full, sweet, Japanese strawberry.

The outer mochi layer is made from glutinous rice flour, giving that nice chewy, stretchy texture.

After all those snacks it was about time to put the two strong legs into action and go for a long walk, and that's what I did, all the way to Tenjin Central Park, where there's an urban forest on the side of an office building where you can go for a wee hike.

My plan after working up an appetite there was to visit a Yatai street food hut for dinner, but I was too early for that, and ended up going on a further trek.

First to Fukuoka Castle ruins, where there isn't much there, but it is a nice big open green area. Then to Momochi beach, a man-made beach that was developed on reclaimed land for the 1989 Asia Pacific Expo.

There's quite a few food stalls there, and I ordered the classic Osaka street food snack 'Takoyaki' to take to the sand where I sat and enjoyed the sunset.
