At the family dinner, my sister introduced her boyfriend, and for some reason, he couldn't stop looking at me. Later, he asked what I did for a living, and that’s when my mother smashed a wrench into my face for talking back to my sister’s boyfriend. Everyone laughed. “At least now you’re pretty.” My sister smiled smugly and said, “I don’t think one hit was enough.” Then my mother tossed her the wrench and said, “Well, you can give it a try.” As I tried to stop her, my father grabbed my hand, and I lost consciousness. They continued to smile alongside her boyfriend as if I were the punchline. Then their faces turned pale.
