Riding the Golspie Wildcat trail (the longest man made singletrack descent in the UK). It's a 15km loop and with 7.5km of that being descent, it certainly is long! Thought I'd ride it and see if it's worth the trip!
Golspie is on the east coast of Scotland but very far north so it's quite a roadtrip for a lot of people who travel to it. We were up riding other trails around Inverness and the surrounding area so thought we might as well come and check out Golspie!
The climb was surprisingly nice and just zig zags up the hill without being too technical for the most part. It gets more technical further up but only short sections then the final partup to the top is a fire track until you reach the Duke of Sutherland monument.
The Wildcat descent started wide open and flowy with small drops and berms although as we had a crazy windy day it was pretty tough going! It then gets rocky and has some undulating parts before heading into the trees where there are more rock sections and drops. Further on there are jumps - tabletops mostly and some poppy fun bits. Even came across some log skinnies! The final part is flatter and finishes on another rocky section back down to the road next to the car park.
It was very much trail centre but with a more natural feel in places given the rocks and slabs. Hope the video helps give a feel for it!
