Kazarikanagu (飾金具), or ornamental metal fittings, are a beautifully refined and symbolic element of traditional Japanese metalwork. Historically these fittings were not just decorative but also at times would play a structural role in design. They can often be seen embellishing large wooden beams, temple eaves, castle gates, temples, shrines, traditional mansions, sliding doors, and wooden furniture. This type of metal work can take your garden gate to the next level as these pieces are very difficult to find outside of Japan.
Each piece is a recreation of beautiful historic designs based on original historical reference material that I have researched and collected. I design and cut each of them with a cnc plasma cutting machine. For most designs they cut from 16-gauge steel unless another thickness is requested. Each are finished with a durable textured black powder coat. Other colors including a natural rust finish can be done upon request.
Most of my work is custom commissioned, so please reach out to discuss your project. However, below you’ll find some standard designs I offer with a quicker turnaround.
