The Central Catholic Raiders took home their third straight CIF state championship after defeating St. Margaret Tartans 31-19.
The Raiders were the first to get on the board with QB Hunter Petlansky showing off his arm to get the team down to the eight-yard line, and then driving in a one-yard touchdown. He continued to show off why he is a playmaker going 11 passes on 16 attempts for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Normally his go to man is RB Justin Rice, but tonight the player that made the difference was TE Jared Rice. His first touchdown of the night was a leaping 20 yard catch to make the score 14-0. Rice showed off on both sides of the ball, with six receptions for 73 yards, two touchdowns as well as two interceptions and a quarterback sack.
St. Margaret hadn’t faced much difficulty on their 15-0 season, prior to this game. After being held to a three and out on their opening passion, the Tartans wern’t able to move the ball until the end of the second. QB George Krantz worked the air with a six play, 76-yard scoring drive. His four-yard touchdown pass to Nick Shanks made it 21-6 to end the first half. Although they didn't pull off the win, the Tartans fought to the very end in their second state championship title appearance.
For the third consecutive year, the Central Catholic Raiders claim the top title in high school football.
