iM1A2 ( from Interactive Magic for Windows95) the other "M1 Tank Platoon 2" and possibly better

Описание: Surprised there are few vids of this one, but then again it is difficult to get working in windows 10 right, and I am using a version that runs in win95 that is itself running through Dosbox - you can find it to buy on ebay from the seller "Allvideo"


Although the graphical quality is poorer compared to M1 Tank Platoon 2 from Microrpose that would be released a year later in 1998, this simulation of the M1A2 Abrams is in many aspects a better, more complete game than the Microprose title.
Even though once I got M1TP2 (M1 Tank Platoon2) i never really went back to iM1A2, now playing it, I can see so many geat details missing from M1TP2:
-The enemy will pop smoke once they detect they are being lased, or are seen.
-You will audibly hear the buzzing sound in your tank that will indicate you are being lased by the enemy.
-the gunner will actually fire on the targets designated by the commander, a feature that was broken in M1TP2 (it work partially in version1.1, but was broken again in version 1.2)
-overcast weather will also limit view distance, with fog effects
you will get voice messages that confirm enemies sighted by your units
the terrain although much uglier and almost treeless has more undulations higher hills and deeper valleys than in M1TP2
your tank is not invincible from the front like in M1TP2 you can still be immobilised, crippled, disabled or destroyed


its not a perfect game and its graphics, made by Interactive Magics own inhouse graphics engine they created, were outdated looking already in 1997. Despite this it is a great Abrams sim and it would have been so good if M1TP2 had included all the working features that this game had.


There is a relationship of this game to the original M1 Tank Platoon too, in that Interactive Magic was Will Bill Stealey's company after he left Microprose and things like the how the gunner station looks is very reminiscent of M1 Tank Platoon 1
