Bhai Amritpal Singh’s Two-Seat Strategy 👽 Could Shake Panjab Politics ?
Punjab’s political landscape could be heading toward a major shake-up as speculation grows around the political campaign of Amritpal Singh, the Khadoor Sahib MP and leader of Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De). The central focus of this political analysis is the possibility that he may contest the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections from two constituencies—one in Majha and one in Malwa.
The biggest question is where he could choose to enter the electoral battlefield. Dhuri, directly against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is one possibility, while Lambi, potentially against Sukhbir Singh Badal, is another. A Doaba seat such as Kapurthala could also remain among the alternative options. Each option carries a different political objective and could influence the wider electoral equation.
The strategy behind contesting from two regions would be to demonstrate that Amritpal Singh’s political appeal extends beyond Majha and reaches voters across Punjab. His supporters believe issues such as drugs, unemployment, Punjabi identity, Sikh political concerns, and dissatisfaction with traditional parties could help build a broader statewide support base.
From a strategic perspective, the move could also provide strategic control over the political narrative. Challenging Bhagwant Mann could turn the election into a direct contest between two prominent political personalities, while challenging Sukhbir Badal could allow Waris Punjab De to present itself as an alternative to the traditional Akali Dal’s Panthic and rural vote base.
However, the strategy also carries major risks. Amritpal Singh remains in jail, questions have been raised about his party’s organisation and ticket distribution, and he faces criticism from both political opponents and sections of Panthic politics.
The bigger question is therefore not simply whether Amritpal Singh can win two Assembly seats. The real issue is whether he can convert personal popularity into a statewide political organisation and emerge as a serious alternative to Punjab’s established political forces.
If he contests two high-profile constituencies, the resulting political campaign could become one of Punjab’s most closely watched electoral battles, with the potential to significantly reshape the state’s political landscape.
