Quality Assurance is the evaluation of the medical services that are provided, as well as results that are achieved, compared with the accepted standards set by The Joint Commission. The Joint Commission requires a hospital service to have a quality assurance plan in order to provide a system for controlling the quality of care. There are nine recognized steps for a quality assurance plan that are generally used in healthcare.

▪ Step #2. Determine the cause of the problem
▪ Step #3. Rank the problem
▪ Step #4. Develop a strategy for resolving the problem
▪ Step #5. Develop appropriate measurement techniques
▪ Step #6. Implement a problem-resolution strategy
▪ Step #7. Analyze and compile the results of the intervention
▪ Step #8. Report the results to the appropriate personnel
▪ Step #9. Evaluate the intervention outcome
