Fermentation is a preservation process where compounds like sugars are broken down by bacteria/yeast. I’ve been learning about ways to improve my microbiome and overall gut health, and consuming fermented foods seems to be one of the most effective ways to do so, as demonstrated in this study spearheaded by @sonnenburglab at @stanford.med @stanford
This study compared a high fiber diet vs a fermented foods diet and it’s affect on the biodiversity of bacteria in the gut. The group that consumed more fermented foods had increased biodiversity compared to the group that consumed the high-fiber diet.
