#Echeveria shaviana 'Truffles'
Echeveria shaviana 'Truffles' is a stunning succulent cultivar named by Charles Glass, beloved for its unique appearance and relatively easy care requirements.
This beautiful succulent forms rosettes of fleshy, upcurved purple-blue to pale green leaves with distinctive crinkled or ruffled edges. The rosettes can grow up to 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter and start as solitary plants but will produce a few offsets as they mature.
One of its most striking features is the flowers that appear in late spring and summer - they're pink on the outside and yellow to yellow-orange on the inside, borne on arching stalks.
Care Requirements
💧 Watering
Use the soak and dry method - water thoroughly, then allow soil to dry completely
Never let water sit in the rosette as this can cause rot or fungal diseases
Needs approximately 0.8 cups of water every 12 days when not getting direct sunlight in a 5" pot
Overwatering is the most common cause of death
☀️ Light
Prefers full to partial sun
Needs strong light for optimal growth
Can be grown outdoors or indoors as long as it receives adequate sunlight
🌡️ Temperature
USDA Hardiness Zones: 9b to 11b
Can tolerate temperatures from 25°F (-3.9°C) to 50°F (10°C)
Does not handle cold well - bring indoors if you live in a colder climate
Prefers warm climates
Soil
Requires well-draining, porous soil
Use a specialized succulent or cactus mix*
Essential to prevent waterlogging and promote healthy roots
🌿 Maintenance
Remove dead leaves from the bottom of the plant as they can attract pests, especially mealybugs
Repot as needed during the warm season
Ensure soil is dry before repotting
Propagation
'Truffles' can be propagated by:
Leaf cuttings (most common and recommended)
Stem cuttings
Seeds (not recommended due to slow growth)
For leaf/cutting propagation:
1. Remove a healthy leaf or cutting with a clean knife
2. Allow it to callous for a few days
3. Plant in well-draining succulent soil
4. Water when soil dries out
Difficulty Level
This is considered an easy-to-grow succulent, making it ideal for beginners .
Special Notes
