➡️ For some reason, I thought Interpol might be a really heavy band. Instead, I was surprised to hear a really spacious, melancholy sound powered by a rhythm section that quickly stole the show. I've had this band on my list for almost a year, and already can't wait for the next Interpol episode. Carlos D plays some of the most inventive bass parts in perfect "rhythmic harmony" alongside drummer Sam Fogarino, and they both add such a depth to the composition of "Obstacle 1". I discuss the asymmetrical bass grooves played by Carlos, why this approach can be so important to a song, the massive amount of contrast between the rhythm section and the guitar parts, the song's unusual pacing, and much more!
