I remember growing up the threat of being beaten was often said in my family because my mother and her sisters were beat daily by my grandmother. The house had to be cleaned a certain way and they had to be home at a certain time. I remember lots of yelling and threats and I remember I got really angry in my teenage years. I couldn't wait to leave and I acted out a lot.
I don't have any children. I know that telling parents how to parent is a very touchy subject because no one wants to be labeled the bad parent. If everyone is right, then who is wrong? I don't want to make this a blame game or make excuses for why you can't move on because of childhood trauma. I think we should take what has happened to us and make sure it is not being repeated.
Everyone cares about the children when it's too late. We take care of the sickness but not the symptoms. I hope we can do better.
