At the time of this review, there are not any 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc on the market. That part of the review will come in a few weeks. Even without a disc there is still plenty to checkout with the UBD-K8500.

Samsung UBD K8500 Design
Keeping with the curvature of its televisions, Samsung has made the UBD K8500 with a curved front and back. I like that there are full controls are on the front. This is a nice to have feature when you misplace the remote.

Samsung UBD K8500 Connectivity
The UBD K8500 has two HDMI jacks; one for audio only and the other for video. There is a digital audio jack and an ethernet connection. The audio jack supports Dolby Digital 7.1 audio. And there is one USB 3 port on the front of the device.



Samsung UBD K8500 Remote
The remote is moderately complex. There is the addition of the ABC and D buttons. These allow for additional navigation choices on the 4K Blu-ray disc. Even though it feels light, the remote feels well made and you will quickly learn to use it without needing to look at it.

To get a 4K picture from the player be sure to connect it to a HDCP 2.2 HDMI port on your television.

Another setting you want to be sure to use is the 16:9 full image option. For me, the other options did not work when trying to get a 4K signal.

The Samsung UBD K8500 plays all disc formats. CDs DVDs and Blu-rays. It is without question the fastest blu-ray player I have ever reviewed. The Man of Steel Blu-ray I used for the review, loaded almost instantly.

Even with a normal blu-ray, the picture looks really good. Seeing how good a normal upscaled blu-ray looks is raising my expectations for 4K Blu-rays.

Samsung UBD K8500 Streaming
As a streaming device it provides the major options that most of care about. Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, Vudu and Amazon Prime are all here. The 4K Streaming from Netflix and Amazon Prime looks good and performed well.
