This bind-off technique creates a clean, flexible edge on 2x1 ribbing ideal for high end knitted garments. It is done with a tapestry needle and yarn tail. Begin by cutting the yarn, leaving a tail at least twice the width of your edge. Thread the yarn into a tapestry needle.

Hold the needle with the stitches in your left hand, and the tapestry needle in your right hand. Ensure the first two stitches are knit stitches when viewed from either the right or wrong side. If a purl stitch appears first from the right side, begin from the wrong side instead.

First, from the right side, insert the tapestry needle from left to right through the loop of the first knit stitch. Remove the stitch from the needle, then insert the tapestry needle from right to left through the loop of the second knit stitch. Gently pull the yarn through.

Second, from the wrong side, insert the tapestry needle from right to left through the loop of the next knit stitch. Pull the yarn through carefully.

Third, from the right side, insert the tapestry needle from left to right through the loop of the first knit stitch. Remove it from the needle, then insert the tapestry needle from the back of the next knit stitch. Pull the yarn through gently.

Forth, from the wrong side, insert the tapestry needle from behind through the loop of the first knit stitch. Remove it from the needle, then turn the tapestry needle toward the work and insert it from the front of the next knit stitch. Pull the yarn through carefully.

Repeat these four steps until all stitches are bound off. End with securing the yarn tail on the inside of the work.
