-- making this video made me wish there were more one on one spalison scenes because if you know me you know that in my mind spalison was without a doubt the strongest platonic relationship. imo, alison is the only one of the other four that gave spencer room to be a mess (her reaction to spencer's drug addiction vs theirs, as well as what i believe to be the deeper reason spencer sees alison in radley and has a comforting moment even though she isn't there, whereas when she sees the girls, the moments, both when they are really there and not, are charged with shame and stress), the first that made spencer comfortable in pushing back and standing up for herself without being scared it'd mean she'd lose her. to me, when she says that, it means she felt a permanence with alison, like their friendship was strong enough to survive even when they were treating each other like shit, they could always fix it. spencer oftentimes pleases others to the point where she sacrifices herself, so when she stands up to alison and puts her feelings in the foreground with her, (especially in the flashbacks, it's revolutionary action for her) i find it very important. for alison, spencer grounded her, because she gave her the same sass and pushback before the other girls learned to, and for me, when I watch, I notice how alison leans on spencer a ton (figuratively and, as you can see, quite literally sometimes lol), it comes off to me as if they really were meant to be sisters. they both are extremely fierce, strong, and protective of the other. I feel like they understand each other in a different way than their relationships with the others because of their family intersection and i love the fact that they ended up being revealed as family. I tried to portray it best as I could here.
