Sunstone LZR 100 (100 joule laser welder)
System 2:
Orion Pulse 150i, pulse arc and resistance welder
Laser Welds:
The LZR100 is set to 4.0kw power, 3.5ms length, 1.3mm spot size, and a square wave form to weld the tubes. The length of the tube is somewhat prohibitive to achieving ideal angles in the laser box and some bending of the tube was necessary.
Orion Pulse 150i:
The Orion Pulse 150i is set to 19ws energy with Sloped Agitation enabled for the welds pictured. It is helpful to aim the electrode primarily at the copper to ensure good fusion between the two metals (the steel will flow toward the copper). Several overlapping welds form a smooth seam around the perimeter.
Summary:
Both systems can perform the welds. As always, further experimentation with settings and practice with the welds can lead to even better results.
