Looking for the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor on a 2002 Toyota RAV4? In this quick guide, I show you exactly where it’s located and what to look for.
You’ll find the MAP sensor mounted on the intake manifold near the back of the engine bay, on the driver’s side. It’s a small square/rectangular black or dark gray sensor (about matchbox-sized) with an electrical connector and a small vacuum hose. A simple trick: follow the large intake hose from the air box toward the engine—the MAP sensor sits close to where that airflow path meets the manifold.
I also cover common bad MAP sensor symptoms (rough idle, poor MPG, check engine light), typical codes (P0105–P0109), and whether cleaning it with electronics cleaner might fix the issue before you buy a replacement. Replacing it is usually a 15-minute job with basic tools.
Parts typically run $30–$60 (OEM Toyota or quality brands like Denso).
