The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a provisional Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) relief of PKR 2.99 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for K-Electric (KE) consumers for power consumed in March 2025. This relief will be reflected in the electricity bills issued in June 2025.

The decision follows KE’s petition for a provisional monthly FCA adjustment, which accounts for fluctuations in global fuel prices and changes in the generation mix. NEPRA’s approval means customers will benefit from a reduced fuel cost component in their bills, providing financial relief amid ongoing energy sector challenges.

NEPRA has also provisionally retained PKR 2.74 billion related to adjustments for partial load operations, open cycle usage, plant degradation, and start-up costs. These amounts will be adjusted against KE’s pending claims to protect consumers from future tariff shocks.

The FCA relief applies to all consumer categories except lifeline consumers, domestic protected consumers, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), and prepaid electricity consumers who have opted for prepaid tariffs.

The adjustment will be shown separately on consumer bills based on the units consumed during March 2025. If any June bills are issued before this notification, the relief will be applied in subsequent billing cycles.

This provisional relief is subject to final adjustment once NEPRA determines KE’s Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) for fiscal years 2024-30. Any differences arising from the MYT determination will be reconciled in future FCA adjustments.

Separately, NEPRA has notified a positive FCA of PKR 0.93 per unit for ex-WAPDA distribution companies (DISCOs) for fuel cost variations in April 2025, which will also be reflected in June bills.
