DINGOES are a medium sized canine usually sandy yellow to a red ginger colour but can also be white, black or tan.
Dingoes are found across all habitat types. They are lean in appearance and can sometimes appear to be quite thin; which is their natural body type.
Dingoes are related to the Asiatic Wolf – they have pointed ears, bushy tails and typically howl instead or bark. The major threat to dingoes is hybridization with feral dogs.
Dingoes have a varied diet including wallabies, kangaroos, rodents, rabbits, birds and reptiles.
Dingoes breed once a year during March-June. During that time they live in packs and the alpha female and male will produce 4-6 pups. The other dingoes in the pack will help protect and raise the pups.
THE TAWNY FROGMOUTH is a species of frogmouth native to and found throughout the Australian mainland and Tasmania.
Tawny frogmouths are a nocturnal bird that relies on camouflage during the day, mimicking the appearance of a tree branch. They are generally silver-grey in colour and have bright yellow eyes. Tawny frogmouths are a well adapted species being found in most habitat types except dense rainforest and deserts.
Breeding season ranges from August to December. They form a nest of loosely placed sticks usually in the fork of a tree and lay between 1-3 eggs. They take in turns incubating; one sitting on the nest whilst the other finds food
BARB OWL - one of its most distinctive features is its heart-shaped facial disc. An adaption to hunting at night, it focuses even the faintest squeak or rustle from a mouse into the bird’s ears. Unlike human ears, the owl’s are set at different levels so that it can readily locate the source of the noise. The owl’s feathers have soft fringes to make them virtually silent in flight, and this allows the bird to hear potential prey as it flies across the landscape. Barn Owls also have large eyes, essential for good vision on even the darkest nights. With this combination of features, it’s no surprise that the Barn Owl is a master hunter of the night.
WOMBATS are short-legged, muscular quadrupedal marsupials of the family Vombatidae that are native to Australia. Living species are about 1 m in length with small, stubby tails and weigh between 20 and 35 kg . They are adaptable and habitat tolerant, and are found in forested, mountainous, and heathland areas of southern and eastern Australia, including Tasmania, as well as an isolated patch of about 300 ha in Epping Forest National Park in central Queensland.
