Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka presented a welfare-heavy 2026-27 State Budget in the Assembly, unveiling a series of transformative social security and education initiatives. A cornerstone of the budget is the "Indiramma Jeevitha Kutumba Bheema," launching June 2nd, which provides ₹5 lakh life insurance to 1.15 crore families, alongside a massive ₹1.20 crore term insurance for all government employees. The budget significantly bolsters the education sector by introducing a dual-meal program for Intermediate students—offering milk and ragi java on alternating days—while providing ₹2,000 monthly scholarships for ITI trainees and motorized vehicles for differently-abled students. Additionally, the government committed to expanding the social safety net by approving 2 lakh new pensions under the Cheyutha scheme and modernizing healthcare for 23.51 lakh employees and pensioners through the issuance of digital health cards for cashless treatment.
