Engineer Balimwezo Wins Lord Mayor Kampala

Big news is coming from Kampala today. Engineer Ronald Balimwezo has won the Kampala Lord Mayor race, defeating the long-serving incumbent, Erias Lukwago, in a closely contested election.

According to early and provisional results from several tally centres across the city, Balimwezo, who ran on the National Unity Platform ticket, emerged ahead of Lukwago, who has served as Kampala Lord Mayor for more than ten years.
Results from key divisions such as Kampala Central, Nakawa, Lubaga, Makindye, and Kawempe showed Balimwezo leading in many polling stations, including areas that had previously supported Lukwago.
Balimwezo is a civil engineer by profession. During his campaign, he focused on practical solutions to Kampala’s daily problems. These included bad roads, flooding caused by poor drainage, garbage collection, and proper city planning. Many voters said they wanted new leadership that could bring real change.
Erias Lukwago, a lawyer and veteran politician, is known for speaking out for Kampala residents and challenging the central government. However, this election showed that many voters were ready for a new direction.

As the Electoral Commission finalizes the official results, early figures already point to a major political shift in Kampala, with Engineer Ronald Balimwezo set to become the city’s new Lord Mayor.
