Clayey soil is the most fertile soil of all the types of soil. Various soil amendments can be done to alter the status of the soil but it is not a long lasting technique. Changing of soil type at a place takes a much longer time to completely change the texture and structure of soil. Organic activity is a much needed part of a fertile soil. As the percentage of organic matter increases in a soil, fertility of soil also increases along with it. These types of soil have a much more water holding capacity. So, these soils are commonly used for cultivation of such crops that need more water. These crops include rice and sugarcane. These types of soils have upto or more than 40 percent of clayey potion, and a lesser amount of sand in it. Therefore, these soils have the quality of water holding for a longer period of time. This is the main reason of making fish farms in such types of soils. Fish farming and fish culture require a type of soil that can hold water for maximum period of time.
These soils are considered as healthy soils.
