Why were some tanks in World War I made of wood?
During the war, tanks were one of the most feared weapons on the battlefield. To confuse the enemy, armies sometimes built fake tanks made from wood and placed them where enemy scouts could see them.
From a distance, these decoys looked real. Enemy forces would move troops and artillery to prepare for an attack that wasn’t actually coming.
Meanwhile, the real attack would happen somewhere else.
It was a simple trick… but it fooled entire armies.
